About The Turkey Trot

Susanna Sullivan, named “America’s fastest teacher” by Runner’s World, is the grand marshal of the 49th annual Alexandria Turkey Trot.

Sullivan is a sixth grade math teacher in Falls Church and five-time Turkey Trot winner (setting a course record three times). She’s also a world-class runner, finishing seventh in the Chicago Marathon this year (she was also the fastest American runner) and 10th in the London Marathon in 2023.

“As Grand Marshal, Sullivan’s presence at the Alexandria Turkey Trot highlights the race’s deep ties to the community and its celebration of extraordinary local talent,” said Alexandria Turkey Trot race director Brian Danza of DC Road Runners. “Her journey inspires runners of all levels, and her dual role as an educator and elite athlete embodies the spirit of commitment and excellence.”

“Susanna’s commitment to her students and her training is such an inspiration,” said DRBA president Lauren Fisher. “We’re thankful that this world-class athlete has spent so many of her Thanksgiving mornings running with us in support of ALIVE.”
